One Sunday morning, three Marine buddies and I were walking to church. A car stopped and a gentleman asked us if he could give us a ride up the hill. We told him how much we appreciated his offer and were astounded when he said he would return to get us after the services. We found out the gentleman was Hedda Hopper's husband. True to his word, he was waiting for us when we came out of the church. He took us to his home and wanted to feed us. Ms. Hopper was quite upset because they were leaving on a trip and there wasn't enough time. We thanked them for being so kind and appreciated both the ride to Church and back to base.
During our ride to the base, I asked them if it would be possible for me to return sometime and sketch the vista I saw from their home. This painting in oil is the result of those visits.
