In the past, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
was known as the “Steel Capitol of the World”. There were many companies located and operating various types of steel mills
in and around the area. Because of this, Pittsburgh also became known as the “Smoky City”. This rendering portrays the pouring
of ingots at one of the mills.
The media I felt would most lend itself to this rendering is scratchboard. This process
is a reversal where the surface is laminated with India Ink. When the surface is dry, the subject is sketched in and then scratched out
with either a razor blade or X-acto knife. Thus the name scratchboard. |
